A day of learning and connection - with each other and ourselves!
In early July the Sussex Birth & Baby Collective hosted our Summer Well-Being event.
An opportunity for the varied professionals of the collective to meet and connect face to face with women and families who were pregnant or attended with their new babies.
The Collective was formed and exists to provide local parents-to-be and new parents with a central hub of resources, a directory simplifying the search for assistance throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.
Our talks/classes on this day were a snapshot of the type of fantastic and supportive wisdom on offer through the members. The event also had a exhbition room with several stall where the parents to be and new parents had the opportunity to get support and meet the perinatal professional members of the collective.
Our day began with Antenatal Pilates with Jen Woolridge (@jenwoolridgepilates), who helped our expectant mums to move with ease and find support within their own bodies as they grow their babies. Pilates is a fantastic way to continue to work out in a safe, impactful and controlled way. Read more about Pregnancy Pilates with Jen on our blog post here (link to other blog post).
We heard some fascinating history and learned about the cultural traditions and importance around the world of Placenta Medicina from Alice (youtousbrighton). She spoke to the group about the varying options you can consider if you want to honour your placenta in some way after giving birth; such as placenta encapsulation, printing or ceremonial burying of this life-sustaining organ.
The wonderful independent midwife, Angie (@thespecialmidwife), hosted an extended Q&A with our attendees about her continuity of care, attendance at all birth types, her role in antenatal care throughout your pregnancy in your own home and much more. She is an incredibly experienced, reliable and intelligent midwife.
The mamas to be and new mamas had the oportunity to reset their energy and connect with their babies in a beautuful Pregnancy & Postnatal Yoga session with the Doula Larissa Karl @doula_foreveryone.
Violet (@themothersrock) guided us through a workshop focussing on transitional periods of life, the importance of this time of 'Matrescence' and helping us all identify what grounds us. Skills for life to return to when things can perhaps feel overwhelmingly like lots of changes are happening.
Saira Ahmed who is Doula, Healer and Holistic Therapist gave a powerful workshop about How to Harness the Mother Intuituon. It was incredible to discover ways to connect with our intuition. Saira brings an important attention to our nutrition lifestyle and the way we take care about our gut and how we can create a rich microbiome in our body and transfer it to our babies. It is incredible how holistic therapies and health nutrition lifestyle make a very positive impact during pregnacy and postnatal. @saira.myhighpriestess
